I think the heat has finally broken.
We have been able to open the windows at night and the forcast this week is 70s and 80s.
Knock on wood.

Jinxed
Our trip was great, but before I blog about it I have something else to say. As you may know my blog is based somewhat loosely on our new life in the desert, that said...
I often try to plan my trips to places that will give me a respite from the heat. SoCal in late September surely seemed to fit that bill. On September 28th 2010, our full day at Disneyland, Los Angeles hit an all time high of 113 degrees, their Highest temperature on record--ever.
This seems to happen to me all the time. If you ever need a heat wave just give me a call and I'll try to come visit.
We laugh about this phenomenon in my family, me not so much.
I have turned the air conditioning to cold and have decided to keep it there until I feel better.

Heat Wave
Yes that is what they are calling it. We have record breaking heat here in the valley of the sun. 107 degrees today. It is a little cooler at night this time of year anyway ,75-80s.

Summer time
When the thermometer keeps hitting the one hundred and teens and the night time temps are around 80 degrees and rising I begin, once again, to seriously doubt my reasons for living in this state. The people who remain here love it. I think those who don't love it eventually are driven out 'cause everyone here loves it. either that or I am all alone in my opinion and crazy to boot for staying.

"only" 102 degrees
Okay so it is "only" 102 degrees outside. There is no such thing as only 102 degrees!
It is hot no matter how you figure it!!
I am in serious need of fall weather! It has always been my favorite season and there is none of it here in this,this,-- DESERT!
I have been running Mom to her Doctors appointments and lab tests and flu shots and pharmacy runs and Ensure buying and fast food drive thru and etc. to get her ready for me to be gone to New York City, and I just come home fom them all sweaty and irritable, and, and, and, Arghhh!
I hear New York is 70 degrees and has leaves of all different colors.

Allison had lunch outside! (imagine being able to do that!) under one of those trees!
I really miss the Rocky Moutains.

An End in Site?
We did not have to run the AC all night last night!
I know, but I can't sleep and scream into my pillow if it is sweaty.
It stayed below 80 degrees! I even sat outside this morning to study and opened all the doors and windows. Fresh air is a beautiful thing.
The relentless heat is diminishing!
maybe.
The light at the end of the tunnel could be the headlight of an oncoming train.

Out With the Old
I am ripping out the old growth in my garden. It is time to plant again.
I harvested nothing!--no wait, 3 small (nickle sized) yellow cherry tomatoes before it got too hot to set fruit.
The Zinnias in the front didn't work well either, and the potted plants are mostly dead again.
I don't know, as Rae Rae says, "The heat makes me angry"!
I had to drive Mom to her dentist Appointment this afternoon in Rae's topless, aircondioningless, car. I made Mom wear a hat to keep the sun off a little bit. She didn't like that much. She won't even let a window be rolled down usually 'cause it blows too much. (I had been on a wild goose chase to try and get a different car to take, but to no avail)! arghh.
Can you see it, imagine it? It was really quite fun. the looks we got were different from the usual ones this car gets.

No $10,000 dollar dentist for My mom, no Sir!
We had Dr. Thomas, from our ward, take out(not rip out as I did my garden) Mom's old teeth stuff and put in shiney new gold crowns.

Sewing, Walking

Sewing, walking, sewing , walking, that is what I have been doing this past week. Sewing Pioneer clothes for three. David is impressed that I can sew. He somehow has missed the fact that I have sewn before. I guess I always did it at night or in Nada's basement or both. This picture is of one of the prom dresses sewn before ,with help. We call it the Flamenco dress(it's exactly what she wanted- I think).
It was 110 degrees today.
The Pioneer Handcart Trek is in a week. I can make 4 miles an hour.
If I tape my feet.
Did I mention chopping the head off that live chicken a while back? Well I did- with an hatchet, then we cooked it in a dutch oven and ate it. Kind of gruesome but I had rather kill it than clean it , scald it, or pluck it. It's all a part of the Ma and Pa training Keith and I are in. Ma s and Pas are dropping out right and left. I live in the city! with city folk. Strange huh?
